This has been on our to-do list from the beginning, but obviously other things -- like getting the submission and search features done -- have gotten precedence. I'm reminded of this in part because I notice that Jin created a user category called "reviewer", and I'm not sure to what degree this feature solves the problem. On the one hand, we don't want to have to create "reviewers" for every referee out there who needs access to the non-public records -- for one thing it would create too much work for the administration; for another, it would give a reviewer non-specific access. The solution seems to me to be to have a long hex GUID that is generated for each new study and presented to the user in the "Summary" page, perhaps part of a long URL that can be copy/pasted. For example: "http: //www.treebase.org/rev=A2KF4D45GK23KG4W3". The submitter can copy/paste this and email it to his or her editor, and then the editor can pass it on to the referees. This GUID gives read- only access to "in progress" submissions. (or maybe we should have tree categories: "in progress", "in review", and "ready", and the GUID url only works when a study is "in review"). bp * Current status:
